Evaluating the effective resolution of enhanced resolution SMAP brightness temperature image products

The MEaSUREs Calibrated Enhanced-Resolution Passive Microwave Daily Equal-Area Scalable Earth Grid 2.0 Brightness Temperature (CETB) System Data Record (ESDR) includes conventional- and enhanced-resolution radiometer brightness temperature ( T B ) images on standard, compatible grids from calibrated satellite measurements collected over a multi-decade period. Recently, the CETB team processed first 4 years of enhanced resolution Soil Moisture Active (SMAP) L-band (1.41 GHz) images. processing employs form Scatterometer Image Reconstruction (rSIR) algorithm to create images, which are posted fine grids. In this paper, we evaluate effective SMAP image products using coastline island crossings. We similarly L1C_TB_E product that is based Backus-Gilbert processing. present comparison spatial rSIR with conventionally-processed (gridded) data. find daily slightly finer than about 30% conventionally
